Heat waves rising from sand at the beach, the warm glow from a campfire, the first bit of water from a hose sitting in the sun: These are all examples of radiant heat.
A typical radiant system works by heating water that circulates through PEX tubing embedded in the floor, walls or ceiling of your home. The heat from the water radiates out from the tubes, warming the floors, walls or ceiling. It is a comfortable, consistent heat where cold spots and drafts are eliminated. Radiant heat is more efficient than baseboard and forced-air heating and the lack of moving air can be advantageous to people with allergies. Hydronic systems use very little electricity and can be heated with a wide variety of energy sources.
